Last week, Mr. Bertelsen and a few students met with visiting CASIS engineers. There, we gave them a progress report and informed them of our current situation.
This meeting proved to be fruitful. CASIS seemed pleased with the amount of work we put in. One interesting suggestion was given. Instead of picking only one algae to send to space, perhaps we could send both algae strains to space. Because our bioreactor designs are both similar and four-chambered, we could send both Chlamy and Chorella to the ISS, each in 2 chambers.
From this point on, there is more refining to be done. The hardware team needs to possible integrate and combine both designs in order to send both strains to space. The outlook team is visiting local middle schools in order to get the students informed and interested in the project. Software is finished up the integration of components onto the NESI boards. Also, they are testing the cameras in order to get the best pictures possible.
The science team is working hard. After the many setbacks that they have encountered, they are making promising progress and gaining valuable information.
In conclusion, as the project is nearing its deadline, the entire class is working with haste. We are making outstanding progress and are getting closer to the end.
